Where is a good Violin Shop in the San Francisco or San Jose area?
I need to get a New Violin bow and shoulder pad. It would be nice to find a store with a nice selection and good value. I used to play in high school many years ago.

Our Favourite Shop $9.59 Our Favourite Shop, the Style Council’s second proper album, was still quite eclectic, but it didn’t seem as schizophrenically diverse as Cafe Bleu. Paul Weller had been able to incorporate his soul and jazz experiments into his songwriting, writing the fine “Walls Come Tumbling Down,” “Come to Milton Keynes,” “Boy Who Cried Wolf,” and “Down in the Seine,” which were some of his best songs for the Style Council. The occasional misguided experiment remained — the stiff funk of “The Internationalists” and the self-righteous “The Stand Up Comic’s Instructions” were particularly embarrassing — but the record was more cohesive and stronger than the debut. In America, the album was released without “Our Favourite Shop” and retitled Internationalists. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi Performers: Jeremy Wakefield – Sequencing; Peter Wilson – Sequencing; Audrey Riley – Cello; Clark Kent – Contrabass, Double Bass; Jocelyn Pook – Viola; Patrick Grundy-White – French Horn; Steve Sidelnyk – Conga, Percussion; Alison Limerick – Vocals; Anne Stephenson – Violin; Ashley Slater – Trombone; Billy Chapman – Sax (Tenor), Saxophone; Camelle Hinds – Vocals, Bass; Charles Buchanan – Violin; Chris Laurence – Trombone; D.C. Accidental Human Deaths in Iowa: Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Rocky Marciano, George S. Mickelson, Roger Peterson, Ralph F. Beermann $19.99 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, Rocky Marciano, George S. Mickelson, Roger Peterson, Ralph F. Beermann, John Kenneth Stille, Hick Cady. Excerpt: Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 February 3, 1959) known professionally as Buddy Holly , was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll . Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash , Holly is described by critic Bruce Elder as “the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.” His works and innovations inspired and influenced both his contemporaries and later musicians, notably The Beatles , The Rolling Stones , Don McLean , and Bob Dylan , and exerted a profound influence on popular music . Holly was in the first group of inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Holly #13 among “The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time”. Biography Early life Charles Hardin Holley was born in Lubbock , Texas to Lawrence Odell and Ella Pauline (Drake) Holley on Labor Day , 1936. The Holleys were a musical family, and as a boy Holley learned to play piano, guitar, and violin. His singing won him a talent contest at age five. Holly was always called Buddy by his family. In 1949, he made a recording of Hank Snow’s “My Two Timin’ Woman” on a wire recorder “borrowed” by a friend who worked in a music shop, his first known recording. In 1952, he met Bob Montgomery at Hutchinson Junior High School. They shared an interest in music and teamed up as “Buddy and Bob”. Initially influenced by bluegrass music , they sang harmony duets at local clubs and high school talent shows. Hutchinson Junior High School now has a mural honoring him, and Lubbock High School also honors the late musician. Holly sang in the Lubbock High School |

Mexican Alternative Musical Groups $8.69 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Café Tacvba (pronounced Café Tacuba) is a Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award-winning band from Naucalpan, Mexico (Satélite). They were founded in 1989, and since then have had the same musical lineup: Mexican folk music player Alejandro Flores is considered the 5th tacuba, as he has played the violin in almost every Café Tacuba concert since 1994. Since the Cuatro Caminos World Tour, Luis “El Children” Ledezma has played the drums in every concert but is not considered an official member of the band. Previously known as “Alicia Ya No Vive Aquí” (a tribute to Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore), the band took its final name from a coffee shop (el Café de Tacuba) located in downtown Mexico City, which opened in 1912 and had its heyday in the 1940s and 1950′s, and was representative of the Pachuco scene from the time, something the band would certainly acknowledge as an influence. The Café de Tacuba is still in operation as a coffee shop and restaurant on Tacuba Street, in Mexico City’s Historic Center. The band changed its name to Café Tacvba (changing the u for a v) in order to avoid legal issues with the coffee shop. In their first shows (prior to the release of their first album), people would scream “¡Pinche Juan!” (“Fucking Juan!”) to Rubén because that’s the name of one of the band’s first underground hits, so he kept the name for the release of the first album. Two years later he got bored and changed it to “Cosme” (an out of style name in Spanish) for the release of “Re”. Since then, he has changed his name for every album and world tour. Formerly graphic design students, Rubén, Joselo and Quique design their own album covers. Rubén Isaac Albarrán |

The Man Who Wrote Mozart: The Extraordinary Life of Lorenzo Da Ponte $2.98 In June 1805 a 56-year-old Italian immigrant disembarked to Philadelphia carrying only a violin. Before dying in New York 23 years later, he would find New World respectability as the first Professor of Italian at Columbia University. For now, he set up shop as a grocer. There was always an air of mystery about the Abbe Lorenzo Da Ponte. A scholarly poet, teacher, and priest with a devoted wife, he also had a reputation as a womanizer. Da Ponte charmed all he met, pioneering the place of Italian music in American life. But his self-assurance also excited mistrust. When the first Italian opera was performed in New York in 1825, he had the nerve to claim he had written it. Like the memoirs he wrote to pay off more debts, the old man was constantly full of tall stories. The varied lives of Lorenzo Da Ponte, librettist of Mozart’s three great operas—The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi Fan Tutte—begin in Venice, linger in Vienna and London, and end in New York, where today he lies buried in an unmarked grave in one of the world’s largest cemeteries. |

Water & Solutions $15.04 Water & Solutions was recorded at the The Magic Shop in downtown Manhattan, and the city itself became a source of inspiration and energy for Far. Unlike previous recordings, the twelve songs had not been played live prior to their recording. Far concentrated on song structure and melody; Jonah focused on singing rather than screaming. They added a little piano and organ, a bit of violin and a string arrangement or two. The results resonate with honest passion and creative conviction. |
